WASHINGTON — In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda (In Our Own Voice) will hold the fifth annual Reproductive Justice (RJ) Week of Action, in celebration of 25 years of Reproductive Justice. Every August, In Our Own Voice works with its eight partner organizations — Black Women for Wellness, Black Women’s Health Imperative, New Voices for Reproductive Justice, SisterLove, Inc., SisterReach, SPARK Reproductive Justice NOW, The Afiya Center and Women With a Vision, Inc. — to amplify their collective voices around policy and culture change issues that are critical to the health and well-being of Black women and girls.

“We don’t lead single-issue lives; so when we experience oppression, the consequences ripple across every aspect of our being,” said Marcela Howell, founder, president and CEO of In Our Own Voice. “Reproductive justice is about addressing oppression at the intersections of issues, taking a holistic approach to dismantling injustices.”

This year, the RJ Week of Action will take place from Monday, August 26 through Sunday, September 1 and the theme is “Living Our Power.” Besides meeting with congressional representatives to discuss federal issues, the organizations will also conduct community events designed to educate the public about critical policy issues. Voting Rights Advocates Primed to Continue Battle Against Voter Suppression

March 10, 2022 (ATLANTA, GA) - Today, in a partisan vote, members of the Georgia state House passed HB 1464, legislation that would further restrict access to voting for marginalized communities. This bill is just one of many recent attempts by state legislatures to suppress the votes of Black and Brown communities, young people, and low-income individuals.

The Election Protection Coalition is fighting double duty with just 27 days remaining until the U.S. Senate runoffs. We are committed to protecting the right to vote for all eligible citizens and ensuring that every vote is counted.

“We have seen time and time again that voter suppression disproportionately affects communities of color,” said Marcela Howell, founder, president and CEO of In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda. “We will not stand by and allow our voices to be silenced. We will continue to fight for fair and accessible elections for all.”

The Election Protection Coalition is a nonpartisan coalition of organizations dedicated to protecting the right to vote and ensuring that every vote is counted. We are committed to fighting against voter suppression and advocating for fair and accessible elections for all.
