If/When/How Reproductive Justice HIV Legal Fellow

Grabiela D. Hernandez is a strategic legal thinker and advocate overseeing the Center for Sexual Reproductive Justice Law and Policy at SisterLove. As Lead Movement Lawyer, she advances reproductive rights, human rights, healthcare access, and social justice, focusing on health inequity, racial and gender-based discrimination, birth justice, immigrant rights, LGBTQIA+ liberation, Black maternal health, and systemic oppression. Her work primarily addresses the sexual and reproductive justice challenges faced by Black women, people of color, gender-expansive individuals, and marginalized groups.

Grabiela advocates for sexual and reproductive justice by engaging with Georgia’s legislative body, cultivating relationships with policymakers, drafting comprehensive legislation, and conducting in-depth legal research on key issues at the intersection of civil rights, social justice, and human rights. A core component of Grabiela’s work includes providing expert legal and policy analysis, conducting legal research, and shaping advocacy strategies at both state and national levels. By collaborating with other legal organizations, advocacy groups, and community stakeholders, Grabiela amplifies the impact of SisterLove’s legal and policy initiatives.

Grabiela also serves as a representative and spokesperson for SisterLove, representing the organization’s work at conferences, in the media, and within policy forums. Grabiela plays a key role in preparing legal documents, participating in media outreach, and representing SisterLove at public events. As a passionate advocate for sexual and reproductive justice, Grabiela brings vision, leadership, and dedication to ensure that SisterLove continues to lead the fight for the rights of marginalized communities, amplifying their voices and advancing legal and policy change.

Grabiela holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with honors, including a pre-law certificate, from Florida International University and earned her Juris Doctorate from Emory University School of Law in 2023. At Emory, she gained invaluable experience working with the Honorable Judge Rachel Krause at the Fulton County Superior Court and with the legal team at Mosaic Georgia, a children’s rights and advocacy center. At Mosaic Georgia, she contributed to civil litigation involving adults and children seeking relief from sexual assault. Grabiela joined SisterLove as an If/When/How Lawyering for Reproductive Justice Legal Fellow before transitioning to her current role as Lead Movement Lawyer.
